Targeted at those who are grade 5 and above, the series focuses on some essential pianistic skills like sight-reading, analyzing, memorizing, and practice methods. The workshop will illustrate ways to improve reading at sight and learning a piece quickly in a methodical manner.

Session 1: Importance of Music Analysis
Various music analysis methods discussed here will demonstrate how one can quickly learn a piece of music and impact performance.

Session 2: Efficient Practice Methods
This session will illustrate practice techniques that can help tackle common pianist problems.

Session 3: Improving Sight-Reading
This session will focus on the underlying psychology and the process of sight-reading.  Drills suggested here can help improve sight reading in a very methodical manner.

Each session will have a masterclass where participants can demonstrate musical passages that they have difficulty with. Ways to rectify the problems will be discussed. Workshop is open to students of Grade 5 and above. Please send a video recording of you playing the passage and the sheet music to us at least 2 days ahead of the workshop.

Srikanth Gnanasekaran is a pianist hailing from Chennai. He performs in solo piano recitals and frequently collaborates with theatre artists. Srikanth went to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the UK, where he studied with some of the world’s finest musicians and graduated with a Masters degree in Piano Performance. He is also a proficient composer and has a particular interest in composing for voice and piano. Along with the music degree he also holds a diploma in audio engineering. He founded Piano Lab to share his love for western art music through teaching and collaborations.
