The skill of improvisation is fundamental in music creation and its innate in all of us - it’s freedom! The purpose of this 3-part masterclass is to explore basic musical techniques and exercises in order to develop harmonic knowledge, finger dexterity and freedom of ideas when improvising. Some of the topics discussed will be:

  • How to properly read and analyze chord changes in order to navigate them better when improvising.
  • How to extract melodic, rhythmic and harmonic ideas from songs
  • Understand how scales, arpeggios and other patterns are used in your soloing.
  • Learn about the 2-5-1 progression and its importance in the jazz idiom.

  • Music feel and articulations
